Bushbaby Adventures represented Ba-Phalaborwa at WTM Africa 2026, promoting local tourism and cultural experiences to international buyers.
PHALABORWA – The World Travel Market Africa 2026, held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, brought together over 6 000 global travel and tourism professionals to engage on key industry trends, sustainability, and innovation within the sector, recently.
As part of Africa Travel Week, the event provided a strategic platform for destinations to showcase their offerings.
Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality takes part as exhibitor
Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality proudly participated in this prestigious event as an exhibitor, represented by Bushbaby Adventures Tours & Safaris. The participation of Elize Olivier was supported by the municipality as part of its ongoing efforts to position Ba-Phalaborwa as a tourism destination of choice.
Bushbaby Adventures showcases local tourism experiences
Bushbaby Adventures was established in 2015 by Olivier who is a seasoned tour operator. The company offers various excursion activities in the Kruger Park, Phalaborwa and surrounding areas.
Their signature is local traditional catering and awareness of local fruits like the Marula fruit and the famous Mopani worm.
They love what they do and believe local is “lekker”.
Phalaborwa promoted as tourism destination beyond mining
The exhibition created a valuable platform to promote Phalaborwa as more than a mining town, highlighting its unique appeal as a vibrant tourism hub located on the doorstep of the renowned Kruger National Park.
Engagements with international and local stakeholders emphasised the area’s rich cultural heritage, warm hospitality, and diverse tourism offerings.
Business-to-business meetings create market opportunities
Importantly, a number of business-to-business meetings were held with potential buyers of tourism packages. These engagements are expected to contribute positively towards positioning Ba-Phalaborwa within competitive tourism markets and unlocking new opportunities for local tourism enterprises.
Strong international interest in Limpopo destination
Visitors to the stand expressed strong interest in the destination, with many acknowledging Limpopo as a welcoming and culturally rich region.
The interaction with global audiences further strengthened the visibility of Ba-Phalaborwa and reinforced its potential as an attractive travel destination.
