Cycling couple finishes Amashova Classics

Ntwanano and Khetani Mushwana are proving that a couple that cycles together, stays together.

The pair managed to complete the Amashova Durban Classic 2022 race on Sunday, October 23.
They both cycled the entire 106 km which began from Pietermaritzburg and concluded in Durban at the Moses Mabhida Stadium. This was their second longest race after cycling the 2022 Cape Town Cycle Tour which boasts a distance of 109 km.

The couple only started cycling seriously two years ago when they were looking for a fun activity that will also keep them fit and in shape. Some of the events which they recently competed in include the 2022 Monte Casino Classic (90 km) and Tshwane Classics (64 km) among others. Ntwanano told the Herald that although the race was tough, he is glad they both managed to finish it without any injuries.

Khetani told the Herald that For races that are far like Cape Town and Durban we extend our stay and have mini vacations. So every race outside limpopo becomes a vacation. ” I am more fitter, and training more often has helped heal chronic migraines that I used to suffer from. Cycling has also strengthened my bond with my husband. I get to spend over 90% of my time with him as we do most of the stuff together, such as gym, cycling, walking and outing with friends,” she said.

She further encourages couples who want to start cycling together, to be patient with each other when training and to also support each other as doing it alone it really gets lonely along the way and one can easily give up. She says it is important for couples to sacrifice for each other.

“I love running and my husband doesn’t, so for us to do something together I sacrifice the running for walking then we all get to participate and spend more time together.

They have also introduced their two sons, Ndzalo (5) and Khananito (3) to the sport and they ride together as a family.

Ntwanano who is originally from Nkowankowa, but now based in Polokwane encourages anyone who is contemplating finding a way to get fit or exploring another hobby to consider cycling.
He believes people interested in cycling should join a cycling club as you get to learn from club members about ways to prepare for competitions. It is also a good way to network, he concluded.
