Welcome and Lukas take on the Amashova race
Local avid cyclists, Welcome Khoza and Lukas Malatji, once again took part in the Amashova Durban Classic race.

The two friends completed the 106km from Pietermaritzburg to Durban on October 23 in wet and windy conditions. “It was a tough race, especially at the beginning, it was a rainy and windy day. I had double punctures that affected my overall race time and two broken spokes on the front wheel due to hitting a pothole,” said Malatji.
“I was forced to cycle in ‘limp’ mode without damaging the wheel further. Overall, it was one of the most stressful races that I have ever done, it was a relief to cross the finish line,” he said. Although Khoza had a much better race than Malatji, he also said the weather conditions made the race tough as the wind was from the front.

He told the Herald that at some point in the race, it was so cold that he was shivering and could not feel his toes. Malatji and Khoza also participated in the local MTB race, the Gravelotte Gravel Grinder that took place on Saturday, November 4.
They said they had a great race as the conditions were good. The duo started cycling together in 2019 and loves the fun the sport presents. Some of the national events they have taken part in include the Cape Town Cycle Tour and the Joburg 94.7.
