DZJ Masters FC celebrates league win

DZJ Masters FC are the winners of the 2022/2023 Tzaneen Masters League.

DZJ emerged victorious after outshining seventeen other teams from the region and after playing 34 matches. The league hosted an award ceremony recently at RR Guest House in Maake, where the team was officially named the champions. The champions concluded the season with 85 points after winning 27 games, drawing four, and losing three.

They were followed by Matlule Masters with 79 points and in third position was United Masters with 78 points. At the bottom of the log was the Legend Masters with one point after losing 33 games and only drawing one match. DZJ Masters FC coach, Neville Ndlala, told the Herald that he is pleased with his team’s performance throughout the season.

“It’s a great feeling to lead a winning team and as DZJ Masters we are proud to have our hard work finally paying off. We have very good players who are willing to die for the team. It’s a team we built over some time, and we now have great chemistry.” Although he had a great season Ndlala said he will no longer be coaching but will still be involved in the team activities.

“I’m giving others a chance to coach and manage the team. I will be playing an advisory role from now onwards,” Ndlala added. The league is led by the chairperson, Eric Malatji, and Elijah Manamela, the secretary. Manamela told the Herald that he is pleased with the commitment from all the teams. The league started in 2022 and only players of 35 years and older are allowed. Meanwhile, DZJ Masters hosted their internal team awards in Mariveni village on Saturday, where they honoured exceptional players.

Some of the people who received awards included Abel Sithole who walked away with four awards including player of the season, top goal scorer and players player of the season, and Collen “Khalanga the Great “ Mathevula received the goal of the season award
