Tzaneen runners dominate at the Mall of the North Marathon

Local runners were among the stars at the Mall of the North Marathon in Polokwane on Saturday, April 6.

Tzaneen Marathon Club members, Rusnath Malangane and Nkateko Ndlala finished in the top 20 of the 42.2km men’s category. Malangane was 16th with a time of 03:03:40 and Ndlala was 17th with a time of 03:03:55.

The men’s winner of the marathon was Kenyan runner, Andrew Kiprop, in a time of 02:28:36. He was followed by Letsatsi Photo with a time of 02:29:36 and third was Timothy Munzhelele from Pietersburg Running Club in a time of 02:30:29.

Sheila Saina, also from Kenya, won the women’s marathon in a time of 03:03:38, in second place was fellow Kenyan, Gladys Jepochirchir in a time of 03:03:47 and third was Pietersburg Road Running Club’s Elsabé Cronjé with time of 03:25:51.

Malangane told the Herald that he is proud of his performance. The run was in preparation of the Two Oceans Marathon on Saturday, April 13, and the Comrades Marathon in June. Precious Mohale from Nkowankowa Athletics Club ran the 10km race and obtained first place in the junior category and was fifth in the women’s category
