Ben Vorster teen one of SA’s top swimmers

Thirteen-year-old Lira wins three medals at the SA Junior Nationals, shining in freestyle and butterfly events.

LIMPOPO – Thirteen-year-old local swimming sensation made a splash at the Swimming South Africa Junior National Championships, bringing home an impressive three medals for his club Shamu Swimming during the event held in Cape Town from April 25 to 30.

Lira, a learner from Ben Vorster High School, captured gold in the 50m freestyle with a time of 25.5 seconds and added two silver medals in the 50m butterfly and 100m freestyle.

In addition to his podium finishes, Lira narrowly missed a fourth medal in the 50m backstroke final, placing fourth by a slim margin. He also competed in the 200m freestyle final, cementing his position as one of the top swimmers in the country

His final results: 200m freestyle sixth place, 100m fly fifth place, 50m freestyle third place, 100m freestyle second place, 50m fly second place and 50m back first place.
