Winners Park draw in final

Winners Park drew 1–1 with Musina United in their final home match in Giyani, ending the season just short of title contention.

LIMPOPO – Winners Park wrapped up their home fixtures with a 1–1 draw against Musina United in a tightly contested encounter at Xikukwani Stadium in Giyani on Saturday afternoon.

Despite enjoying home-ground advantage, the hosts got off to a sluggish start and struggled to find rhythm in the opening minutes. That early lapse proved costly, as Musina United capitalised on a defensive error to break the deadlock and take a 1–0 lead just a few minutes into the match.

Stunned by the early goal, Winners Park were forced to play catch-up, with pressure mounting from both the scoreboard and the home fans. Their opportunity to level the score came midway through the first half when they were awarded a penalty after a foul in the box.

However, fortune did not favour the home side. The penalty kick veered wide of the target, leaving the players and supporters visibly frustrated. Despite the setback, Winners Park continued to push forward, creating several chances as they searched for an equaliser.

Their persistence eventually paid off in the second half when a well-worked attacking move resulted in the much-needed equaliser.

Though they fought hard to find a winner, both sides ultimately settled for a point.

The draw brings Winners Park’s home campaign to a close, with the team showing moments of promise but also areas that will need attention ahead of their remaining away fixtures.

Meanwhile, the match was both teams’ final fixture of the season and had no impact on the league standings. Both sides will return to the league next year to try their luck once again, having fallen short of winning the title this season.

Other teams that played their final matches over the weekend included Vondwe XI Bullets, who won 2–0 against Nkowankowa Continental, and Tzaneen United, who lost 2–1 to United Artists FC.

Mpheni Home Defenders and Selwane White Vultures were awarded automatic wins after their scheduled opponents failed to show up.

Munaca FC, which currently leads the league with 43 points, has already played its final match. The two main contenders posing a serious threat to Munaca are Vondwe XI Bullets, who have 42 points with three games in hand, and Mpheni Home Defenders, who also have 42 points but with two outstanding games.

Any victory by Vondwe or Mpheni in their next match could spell disaster for Munaca FC.

What’s likely even more concerning for Munaca fans is that both teams are strong contenders, making it highly unlikely that they will lose all their remaining matches and allow Munaca FC to advance to the next round.
