New BALFA leadership vows to revive football in Phalaborwa
The Ba-Phalaborwa Local Football Association elects new leadership, promising to revive local leagues, develop youth talent, and secure sponsorships.
PHALABORWA – The Ba-Phalaborwa Local Football Association (BALFA) has elected a new executive committee during its elective congress held on Sunday, June 8, at the Namakgale Museum.
The elections were conducted peacefully, with all members elected unanimously.
Fannie Maluleke was elected as chairperson, with Elvis Mongwe as first vice chairperson, Danny Ngobeni as second vice chairperson, and Victoria Magomane as women’s vice chairperson. Edwin Ratlapane will serve as secretary, and Lifalezwe Cibi as treasurer.
Additional members elected to the committee include Tsholofelo Molewa, Cecilia Mogotlane, Khutso Malatji, and Rastido Shirindza.
The newly elected committee has already started its duties and is currently holding consultative meetings with teams and match officials.

Their main focus is to revive the leagues across all divisions and to improve the development of football in Ba-Phalaborwa. Plans include hosting workshops and training for referees, coaches, and football administrators.
BALFA coordinates leagues and competitions in Ba-Phalaborwa. It organises competitions in the u/11, u/13, u/15, u/17, Women’s Football, and the LFA Promotional League. These platforms not only provide structured play but also serve as a gateway to district, provincial, and national team levels. Players are registered through the MYSAFA system, ensuring they are part of South Africa’s official football development pipeline.
Team affiliation and registrations for all divisions opened on Tuesday, July 1, and will close on Thursday, October 31, for the upcoming season.
“We encourage all teams in Ba-Phalaborwa to affiliate with BALFA, as membership provides numerous benefits and opens doors to opportunities within Safa,” said Elvis Mongwe, BALFA spokesperson.
He added that the new season will feature lucrative prize packages, as participation in the leagues has been challenging for most teams.
“The newly elected executive committee will work diligently to secure sponsorship for the upcoming season and encourage businesses and corporations to invest in football development, particularly in organised leagues regulated by Safa,” Mongwe concluded.
