Limpopo Impalas appoint Rabie as new head coach

Former WP and Warriors cricketer Gurshwin Rabie takes charge of Limpopo Impalas, aiming to rebuild and inspire regional cricket talent.

LIMPOPO – The Limpopo Impala Cricket Club has appointed seasoned coach Gurshwin Rabie as head coach of the men’s senior team for the 2025/26 league. He officially took over on August 1, succeeding Gordon Parsons, who led the team for the past two years.

Rabie described his appointment as “an honour and a privilege” and said his focus will be on building on past successes while improving performance across the board.

He also plans to strengthen relationships with stakeholders to ensure young talent from the region stays and develops with the Impalas.

He said his first meetings with the players and coaching staff were positive. “There’s a common desire to see the team and the union succeed.”

Reflecting on last season, Rabie admitted the squad underperformed given its talent pool. “They could have been more competitive. We want to play an attractive brand of cricket that draws crowds and gives Limpopo a flagship team the community can be proud of,” he said.

Rabie, who hails from Oudtshoorn in the Western Cape, enjoyed a successful first-class career with Western Province (WP), SWD, and the Warriors before moving into coaching in 2016. Since then, he has led Western Province and SWD youth programmes, served as head coach of the Cobras Cubs and Colts, and celebrated multiple national tournament victories.

He says his philosophy, instilled since childhood, is simple. “If you’re tasked with a job, give it 100% or don’t do it at all.”
