Cape Vulture Run a success
Runners of all ages joined the Cape Vulture Run, combining fitness, family fun, and vital conservation support.
HOEDSPRUIT – Local runners and outdoor enthusiasts came together at the Cape Vulture Run, hosted by Lowveld Trail Running at the scenic Cape Vulture Nature Reserve.
The event, held on Saturday, September 6, offered a variety of trail routes catering to everyone from seasoned athletes to families seeking a fun day in nature.
Participants had the choice of three trail distances: a challenging 20km route for experienced runners, a moderate 10km course for those looking to test their limits, and a 5km option perfect for beginners, casual walkers, or families with children.
The race started at 07:00, guiding runners through rugged terrain and offering glimpses of the reserve’s unique wildlife, including the endangered Cape Vulture.

“The event was about more than just fitness,” said Belinda Barkas, spokesperson for Lowveld Trail Running. “We want to give people a reason to get outside, enjoy our incredible local environment, and support conservation at the same time.”
Proceeds from the event will contribute to ongoing conservation efforts at the reserve, helping protect this vital natural habitat.
