Phalaborwa teen footballer dribbles past the rest

Fifteen-year-old Travis Mokgalabone earns top awards at national and local tournaments, impressing coaches and inspiring young players.

PHALABORWA – For many young athletes, the journey to the top is long and uncertain, but for Travis Mokgalabone (15), it has been nothing short of inspiring.

Since starting his football journey in 2020, Mokgalabone has quickly risen through the ranks, earning recognition not only for his talent but for his leadership on the field.

Recently, the young star was crowned first best captain at the prestigious Johan Cruyff National Tournament on October 10 and best player at the local Selwane Mkufu-kufu tournament on Saturday, November 15.

Mokgalabone from Mashimamale currently plays for Bambanani Sports FC, where he has impressed coaches and teammates alike.

“I would like to thank Bambanani for allowing me to play with international players. It was an incredible experience to test my skills against such talented athletes and to learn from them. I am happy that we did not disappoint them. We worked hard as a team, supported each other, and gave our best on the field. We made them proud, and I hope to continue representing Bambanani with the same dedication and passion in every tournament,” he said.

The 15-year-old rising star stated that he also plays for Phalaborwa Academy.

His mother, Maida Nkwamba, beams with pride when talking about her son’s achievements.

“Travis has worked so hard since he started playing football, and seeing him earn these awards fills my heart with joy. He is disciplined, humble, and a true inspiration to other young players. I have watched him dedicate countless hours to training, pushing himself even when it was tough, and always striving to improve. His commitment, focus, and respect for his coaches and teammates make me proud every day. I hope his journey encourages other children in Mashishimale and beyond to chase their dreams with the same determination and passion,” she shared.
