Acornhoek City FC storms into new league
Acornhoek City FC capped off pre-season with a huge win as they prepared for their debut in the Cafa Men’s Promotional League.

HOEDSPRUIT – Acornhoek City Football Club, affectionately known as Majita Ya Style, ended their pre-season preparations with an emphatic 5-2 victory over Matsikitsane Home Defenders Football Club on November 29.
The friendly match was played at the Acornhoek Police Station sports field and served as the final tune-up before the team’s highly anticipated debut in the Central Acornhoek Football Association (CAFA) Men’s Promotional League, which was played this Wednesday.
Coach praises team’s readiness
For Acornhoek City, the pre-season has been a period of hard work, strategic planning, and squad building. Head coach Sipho Dzimba emphasised that the friendly was more than just a warm-up; it was a critical test of the team’s mental and tactical readiness for the challenges of league football.
“We truly appreciate our opponents and their tenacity,” Dzimba said. “This match allowed us to assess if our boys are ready for highly competitive league fixtures. Our team performs best when using a possession-based style, which can be challenging for many local teams to counter. We need to maintain composure under pressure and stick to our game plan.”
The victory provided plenty of encouragement for Dzimba and his squad, who are largely composed of players experiencing organised promotional league football for the first time.
While Acornhoek City is a newly formed side, their pre-season results and performances in friendlies have shown promise.

Debut in tough promotional league
Looking ahead, Acornhoek City FC faced Mahashe FC in their opening Cafa Men’s Promotional League fixture. The league features several well-established sides, including Matsikitsane FC, Moholoholo Academy, Acornhoek Ajax FC, and Green Rangers FC, offering a significant challenge for the debutants.
“Many of the teams in this league have been around for years, and their players are experienced,” Dzimba noted. “For many of our boys, this will be their first exposure to organised promotional league matches. We hope that they will showcase their skills, gain valuable experience, and grow as players while competing against seasoned sides.”
Focus on long-term club development
The Cafa Men’s Promotional League also launched its Development League (u/15s) on December 3, providing a platform for younger players to develop their skills and gain exposure.

Participating clubs will field both senior and u/15 teams, allowing for integrated club development across age groups.
Dzimba expressed optimism about the future of Acornhoek City, highlighting the importance of building a strong foundation.
“Our ambition goes beyond just winning. We aim to build a club culture based on discipline, teamwork, and technical skill. These early experiences in the Cafa leagues will be crucial for both our senior and youth players,” he said.
