Tzaneen junior golfer selected for provincial tournament
Morné Huysamen will represent Tzaneen Country Club at the Junior Inter-Provincial Tournament, with steady progress throughout the season.
LIMPOPO – Tzaneen’s Morné Huysamen had been chosen to represent Tzaneen Country Club (TCC) at the Junior Inter-Provincial Tournament later this month. He will be joined by fellow TCC golfer Jaydrian Moolman.
Morné told the Herald that having worked toward this goal for a long time, the selection marked a meaningful milestone in his young golf career.
He believes his consistency, discipline, and steady progress over the past season played a major role in earning him the opportunity, along with many hours spent at the driving range and on the course, sharpening both his technique and his mental game.
Training for top competition
Morné said that preparing for this level of competition demanded intense training.
“I focused on every part of my game, swing, distance control, putting, and on-course decision-making,” he explained. “I also worked on improving my fitness, especially important for days when players must complete 36 holes.”
Though he still struggles with staying calm and resetting after a bad shot, he continues to put in the effort to overcome this challenge. Playing as many rounds as possible each month helps him build confidence and identify areas that need improvement.
He said his goals for the upcoming tournament are to play steady, composed golf, stick to his game plan, stay mentally strong, and hit fairways to create scoring opportunities.
Club and family support
He credits Tzaneen Country Club for providing an environment in which he could grow, as well as excellent facilities for young golfers.
His father, Neville, who is also his coach, has pushed, corrected, and supported him throughout his journey, forming a special father–son bond on the course.
Morné is most excited to test himself against some of the best junior golfers in South Africa.
He hopes this tournament becomes a major steppingstone in his career, possibly even opening the door to a university golf scholarship.
He plans his week to manage schoolwork and training, a routine that has taught him discipline, responsibility, and the art of balancing two passions he cares deeply about.
