Ben Vorster win T20 match against Nelspruit High School

Hoërskool Ben Vorster played a two-day match and a T20 against Nelspruit High School, ending in a convincing win.

TZANEEN – Hoërskool Ben Vorster’s first cricket team, the Black Caps, travelled to Skukuza Cricket Club from January 5-8 to play a two-day and T20 cricket match against Nelspruit High School.

Captain Wilhelm Brümmer won the toss during the two-day match and decided to bat first. With the Black Caps’ score at 203/7 after 65 overs, they declared. SD Viljoen batted brilliantly and scored 94 runs. He was well supported by Aiden von Straate, who scored a patient 65 runs.

Nelspruit went into bat but were all out for 161 runs in 48 overs. This gave the Black Caps a 42-run lead in the first innings. Mpontsheng Mashalane took four wickets for 20 runs while Kuhlani Mnisi and Wilhelm Brümmer each took two wickets.

The Tzaneen team was bowled out for 175 runs in their second innings, and Nelspruit needed to score 218 runs to win. Sontaga Ramatsoma scored 46 runs in the second innings and was well supported by SD Viljoen, 26 runs, and Christian Duvenhage, 26 runs.

The Black Caps.

With Nelspruit’s score at 86/5 after 19 overs, play was abandoned due to lightning and adverse playing conditions. The two-day match unfortunately ended in a draw, although the Black Caps were on their way to victory.

On Thursday, January 8, the two teams played a T20 match.

Nelspruit batted first and were all out for 119 runs in the 19th over. Mpontsheng Mashalane took four wickets for 29 runs, Dirk Nortman two for 22 runs, and Wilhelm Brümmer three for 11 runs.

The Black Caps went into bat and scored 122/3 in 19 overs, winning the match convincingly by seven wickets. Sontaga Ramatsoma scored 48 runs and Wilhelm Brümmer 35.
