Tzaneen Midas Rally revs up huge crowd

The Tzaneen Midas Rally organised by the African Regional Rally Organisation (ARRO) was held all around Tzaneen this weekend.

There was six groups that competed and eight stages on Friday and Saturday.

All together 27 teams registered but unfortunately nine teams fell out of the competition.

Pieter Pilusa and his co-driver, Peter Makuni came in second in the same category and was in the thirteenth position overall.

One of those teams were well known locals, Eddie Simpson and Marko Lottering who had a tough start on Friday night when they slipped and bent their suspension.

The team fixed the suspension but unfortunately it broke again in the final stage of the competition.

The other two local teams from Tzaneen, both competing in Group D did us proud.

Natie Booysen and his co-driver, Louis Menge won first place in the Group D category and they were overall in fourth position in the Rally.

The Chairman of ARRO, Cobus Groenewald thanked everyone in his speech at the prize giving which was held at Hotel@Tzaneen after the Rally.

“How does one start to thank each and every individual who made this by far the best rally of the year,” Cobus stated.

He started by thanking everyone who helped organise the event.

A well-known local team Eddie Simpson and Marko Lottering had a tough start on Friday night when they slipped and bent their suspension.

“To all the competitors you guys made the show. You entertained hundreds if not thousands of people in a spectacular way. You guys really rocked the small town of Tzaneen and left your footprint there that will never be forgotten,” Cobus continued.

He also thanked the community for their tremendous financial support that made the rally a reality.

“Midas Tzaneen you guys are the true heroes of this event. Joining forces with us at a very late stage by sponsoring the TV coverage which by no means is cheap.We are truly grateful for your involvement in this event and for partnering up for 2018,” thanked Cobus.

Round five of the Rally will take place in Gobabis in Namibia on September 8 and 9.
