Tzaneen rally teams win trophies in championship

The 6th round of the 2018 Arro Rally Championship was held at Boekenhoutskloof just North of Pretoria on Saturday, February 2.

It was planned that the rally would have started at Bronkhorstspruit but because of heavy rains in the area the rally unfortunately had to be cancelled and moved to Pretoria.

The first five stages was on tar and the last three gravel stages. 37 teams entered.

Saturday evenings prize giving and year end function was held at Rosa Leda party venue Pretoria North.

The Tzaneeners that competed in this rally did very well, the team of Anton Raaths (driver) and Louis Menge (navigator) driving a VW Golf finished 1st in their class C car for the day and 2nd overall for the day.

Peter Pilusa with navigator Willem Morgan driving a Nissan Sentra finished 3rd in class C for the day and finished 1st in class C and 1st in the Historic class for the 2018 rally championships.

Eddie Simpson and rookie navigator Isabel Raaths finished 2nd in their class D Opel Corsa for the day and 1st in class D and a fantastic 3rd overall, which includes all classes for the 2018 rally championship.

Isabel who started navigating in a rally car for the first time in 2018 also won the coveted 2018 sportswoman of the year trophy.

The first rally for the new season will be at the end of March. There is also preparation work done to host the Midas Tzaneen rally during July this year.
