Limpopo XCO 2 a great success

The PPS Limpopo XCO #2 was initially scheduled to take place on February 25, but due to excessive rain damaging the track, it had to be postponed. The weather played along on Saturday making it an excellent day to be on a bike in the mountains. The track at SLC is a tough one and Gordon Noel, one of the Stanfordians who took on the challenge made sure to make the most of his home advantage winning the boys’ youth category in a time of 54:14:4.

Sophia van Wyk took first place in the girls’ youth race, in a time of 56:14.3. Werner van der Walt took first place in the elite men category, with a time of 1:26:50; Willie Willemse (Jr) won the junior boys category, completing the route in 1:13:34; while Anke Rood had a great day on the track and took first place in the junior girls race. She completed the route with 53:46.4 on the clock. André van Ree took first place in the sub-junior boys’ category and Karli van Wyk won the girls’ category.

Caleb Schwartz won the nipper boys category with a time of 23:46.5 and Herlo Genis took first place in the sub-nipper category. Genis completed the route at 23:21.2. Marlize Shields took first place in the nipper girls category, completing the race in 23:29.8. Rozella Gerner took first place in the sub nipper girls category. Ken de Lange was the first in the sprog boys category with a time of 29:06 and Kristen Thompson did well to win the sprog girls category in a time of 23:17. Steve Wilson won the veteran men’s category and Jan Bastiaan Rabie took first place in the sub veteran men’s race.

Isabella and Nic Dando, Judah Leher, and Ilne Kotze also participated in their home ground race and they all showed real badger spirit. The organisers thanked PPS Petroleum, the title sponsor of the day as well as Allegraine Dairy, Du Roi Nursery, Du Paint & Tool, Letaba Networks, Spar, and Miami Canners. They thanked the Limpopo XCO committee; ROR events, Isis Décor & Design, FMS Medical & Tems, Stanley Thomson, Willie Willemse, Shirley Scriven, Lina Noel, Wild Hawk Farm, Bill Noel and Tiaan Fullard and the rest of the SLC staff who ensured that the day ran safely and smoothly.
