Zandspruit trails a running blast

Local runners enjoyed a Saturday morning on the trails at Zandpsruit Bush & Aero Estate on April 20 with the trailblazers taking on a 6km, 13km or 20km, during the second leg of the Pam Golding Wildlife Estate Trail Run Series.

David Rose won the 20km race, completing the route in 1:38:09 and winning the men’s open category. Aloisse Mdhlovu took second place overall and won the men’s veteran division while Kevin Peterson took third place overall. Master runner, Yolando Roux was the first woman to cross the finish line with Leandri Coetzer in second place and Kristy Thompson in third place. In the 13km race Jacky Bango was the fastest runner.

Bango completed the race in 00:57:15 with Tyronne Winter on his heels, taking second place with a time of 00:57:16. Matthew Sussens took third place overall in the men’s division and Villiers Steyn won the men’s veteran division. Jules Nesmith won the women’s race with a time of 1:07:00. Maryna Steinmann took second place in the women’s division and won the grand master division. Philipa Davidson-Phillips took third place overall.

More than 70 runners took on the 6km trail run. Malwandla Ndlovu (u/16) took the win with a time of 00:28:51 and he is one step closer to a series win on the short course. Robin Cook took second place overall and Van Reenen Kruger took third place overall. Fourth place overall went to a young runner, Ndzlama Ndlovu who also won the u/12- division. Tanya Prinsloo (u/12) was the winner of the women’s 6km race. She took fifth place overall and completed the race in 00:36:51.

Jordan Prinsloo (u/16) took second place and Leah Stewart (u/12) third. The third leg of the Pam Golding Wildlife Estate Trail Run Series will take place on May 25 at Elephant Rock Eco Estate where runners can look forward to 5km, 11km and 19km trails. Walkers are welcome to take on the 5km and 11km routes and aid stations will be available. The final leg of the series will take place at Blyde Wildlife Estate on July 27.
