Locals run Zim marathon

Three Giyani Gallopers Athletics Club runners participated in the Econet Victoria Falls Marathon in Zimbabwe recently.

The three women, Nonhlahla Ndebele, Mokgaetji Beryl Monakisi, and Vhahangwele Nengwenani all ran the 42.2km race. Mokgaetji told the Herald that they had just returned from the Comrades Marathon and took the race slowly.

“We also enjoyed exploring the beautiful country and hope to do it again in the future,” she said. Mokgaetji finished the race in a time of 05:33:12, Nonhlanhla finished in 05:33:15 and Vhahangwele completed the race in 05:33:16. After the Zimbabwe race, Mokgaetji ran the Iron Crown trail run in Haenertsburg.

She said it was a tough race as she had not recuperated properly from the Victoria Falls race, but she managed to finish the run. She will be doing the Foskor Half Marathon and the Masingita Marathon where she hopes to qualify for the Comrades Marathon next year.
