Maruleng Local Municipality's netball team beat hosts Rustenburg in a thrilling final at Impala Stadium to claim the IMSSA title.

HOEDSPRUIT – Maruleng Local Municipality’s netball team has brought home top honours after being crowned champions at the Inter-Municipal Sports of South Africa (IMSSA) Games held in Rustenburg, earning praise from municipal leadership.

What the IMSSA Games are all about

The annual IMSSA Games bring together municipal employees from across South Africa to compete in various sporting codes while promoting employee wellness, teamwork and healthy lifestyles.

The tournament also serves as a platform to strengthen relationships among municipalities through sport.

Maruleng’s netball team delivered an impressive performance throughout the competition before defeating hosts Rustenburg Municipality in a thrilling final played at Impala Stadium to secure the championship title.

Mayor praises players’ dedication

Maruleng Local Municipality Mayor Tsheko Musolwa congratulated the players on their achievement, describing the victory as a testament to their dedication, discipline and determination.

He commended the team for successfully balancing their municipal duties with months of training and preparation leading up to the tournament.

“This victory is a powerful reminder that hard work, discipline and perseverance always bear fruit.

“Our netball team has made Maruleng proud. This achievement belongs to the players, the municipal employees who supported them, and the communities who continue to rally behind our teams,” said Musolwa.

The mayor added that sport remains an important investment for municipalities as it contributes to employee wellness, motivation and unity in the workplace.

A win for the whole community

Municipal spokesperson Justice Shipalana said the achievement reflects the spirit and commitment of Maruleng employees, both in their professional responsibilities and in representing the municipality through sport.

“We are incredibly proud of what our netball team has achieved at the IMSSA Games. They represented Maruleng with passion, discipline and determination, and their success demonstrates what can be accomplished through teamwork and dedication.

This victory inspires not only our employees but also the communities we serve, and we congratulate every player, coach and supporter who contributed to this outstanding achievement,” said Shipalana.
