Six Unicorn learners selected for LIMA cross country team
Unicorn wishes these pupils the best of luck for the South African Championships which is taking place on September 7 and 8 in Port Elizabeth.
Elia Jones, Mika Jones, PG Botes, Keira Booth, Rebecca McLaren and Yvonne Botha have been chosen to be part of the LIMA Cross Country Limpopo team after they participated in at least two leagues before the inter-provincial meeting.
The province can only select a maximum of 18 athletes per age group. Qualifying times are calculated from the winner’s time and for the U/9 and U/10 age group, runners need to cross the winning line in 1 minute 30 seconds after the winner.
In the U/11,12 and 13 age groups, runners qualify if they cross the line in 1 minute and 45 seconds after the winner. To be selected for this provincial team is thus an honour and these runners have shown that they are made for longer distance running.
