UPDATE: Mother in court for concealment of birth

A Zimbabwean national who abandoned her newborn baby at the Tzaneen Showground last weekend will appear in theTzaneen Magistrate's Court on Monday .

Vimbai Svokisi (29) of Tzaneen is facing charge of concealment of birth.

According to police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel, Moatshe Ngoepe, the woman was arrested in Tzaneen, after Annelie Venter and her husband Fanie rescued the newborn baby at the showground golf range.

The little girl was found abandoned with a bag full of clothes next to her, at the golf range, at the Tzaneen Showground on Saturday.

Annelie and Fanie were alerted by a pedestrian that there was a baby in the nearby bush.

They rushed the baby to Van Velden Hospital and she was declared dehydrated.

The baby is safe and in good condition at the Van Velden Hospital.

Svokisi appeared in court on Monday and was remanded in police custody pending her next appearance on Monday.
