Make your child’s teacher a thoughtful gift craft

These personalised salad servers are the ideal gift for teachers. Pull out your DIY skills and get painting with your child.

Is your child’s teacher’s birthday coming up? If so, why not help your child make this thoughtful gift craft that’s both useful and sentimental?

What you need

  • Two store-bought wooden or bamboo salad servers
  • Masking tape
  • Acrylic paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Non-toxic sealant

How to make it

  1. Lightly sand the handles of a pair of wood or bamboo salad servers, then rinse and dry them.
  2. Place a ring of masking tape midway down each handle.
  3. Pour a few colours of acrylic paint onto a disposable plate. Have your child dip a finger into the paint, then make dots on the handles.
  4. Let the paint dry before adding overlapping dots.
  5. Remove the tape.
  6. After the paint is completely dry, coat the handles with a non-toxic sealant.

Top tip: You can also choose to paint the entire spoon, so long as you ensure that only non-toxic sealant is used.
