How to keep your dogs calm over New Year’s Eve
Besides getting homeopathic calming pills from your vet, you can also try the following steps to make the evening easier on your fur baby’s ears and nerves.
Hiding in the cupboard or under the table, shaking and scratching at doors are some of the common signs of a dog that is scared of loud noises – be it thunder, a storm or the dreaded loud bangs during New Year’s Eve. Besides getting homeopathic calming pills from your vet, you can also try the following steps to make the evening easier on your fur baby’s ears and nerves.
Create a safe space
Find a quiet nook in your home where you can set up a little chill space for your pooch with their bed, toys and anything else your dog loves in this spot to make them feel comfortable. Enclosed options such as a large cupboard that is left open or underneath the diningroom table are good options. Ideally you want to stay close to your dog, so that they do not feel alone. Pet your pooch slowly with long strokes to make them feel calm.
Turn up the volume
If your dog is home alone, put him in his safe room and put on some music or the TV to create some noise and help fade out the outside bangs.
Do some exercise
Take your pup on a long walk well before the fireworks start to work off some extra energy. This will help them feel more calm and tired in the evening.
