Tomato sauce bottles broken mistaken as gunshots in Pick ’n Pay at the Middelburg Mall

The scene was red, but not with blood, with tomato sauce!

Daleen Naude rushed to the scene after www.mobserver.co.za received a call of “shots being fired” at the Middelburg Mall. She says that the sound was not made by an actual gun, but by a rowdy customer who swept glass bottles of the tomato sauce rack.

The bottles breaking were mistaken for gun shots by shoppers. Several shops in the vicinity closed their doors and locked customers inside, fearing that it was a robbery.

The person who broke the bottles was arrested by Pick ‘n Pay security guards. The tomato sauce aisle has since been cleaned and police came to collect the culprit.

Reports were recieved that the culprit was mentally unstable and charges might not be laid.
