Men in court after N4 chase

Two men suspected to be involved in an armed robbery and the explosion of an ATM appeared in the Belfast Magistrate's Court.

Mduduzi Mpofu (30) and Prince Makamu (35) faces charges of possession of suspected stolen goods as well as possession of illegal firearms.

Their court appearance follows an incident last Saturday when members of the Flying Squad were involved in a high-speed chase on the N4 when a suspicious vehicle refused to pull over near Machadodorp.

Four pistols with their serial numbers filed off, a shotgun, bomb fuses and cash were amongst the items recovered when the car eventually pulled over near Belfast.

Six suspects ran off in different directions but police managed to capture Mpofu and Makamu.

They are linked with a robbery in Thulamashe near Hazyview where a group of armed robbers held people at gunpoint, blew up an ATM, looted shops and hi-jacked a minibus taxi.

The men will remain in custody until their next appearance and will also appear in Mhala to be charged with the crimes committed in Thulamashe.

Police are requesting people who can help them with the whereabouts of the remaining four suspects to contact Detective Constable Sello Kamela at 078 356 2484 or Crime Stop at 086 001 0111.
