Video: Nigerian national allegedly assaulted

Nigerian nationals in Middelburg are crying foul after one of their fellow countrymen was discovered dead in his house.

David Ibeh’s (36) lifeless body was discovered by a friend, James Bishop, after he failed to reach him on the phone and drove to his house.

Mr Bishop told www.mobserver.co.za that he took Jack, as Mr Ibeh was known amongst his friends, to the hospital a day prior to his death.

He dropped him off at his house in Njala Street. After failing to get hold of him over the phone, Mr Bishop drove to Dennesig where he discovered Mr Ibeh lying on his bed. He was unresponsive. Paramedics later declared him dead on the scene.

They described how Mr Ibeh was assaulted by police officers that they know by name, a couple of months ago at Iraq Taxi Rank, in front of eyewitnesses. He was allegedly taken in for questioning and further assaulted.

•Capt. Khanyisile Zwane, Middelburg Police spokesperson, confirmed that the body of a 36-year-old man was discovered. She said that an inquest docket has been opened and police are currently investigating the cause of death.
