VIDEO: Another Traditional Party

“Please come take a look, it has been going on for two days now. We cannot sleep.”

A marquee tent, erected in the front yard of one of the houses, accompanied by loud music and a large number of guests parking where ever they found a spot had residents irritated.

“They were parking everywhere on our lawns and even sitting and eating in our driveways,” one person living in the street said.

When the Middelburg Observer was notified and went to investigate, the party was over, most of the guests left and tables were being packed up.

Cars however could be seen lining one side of the street.

A debate on Facebook about a previous report on a wedding in Pongola Street in Aerorand, has opposing views.

• Liezl Oosthuizen said that no one should force their culture on someone else.

• Pontsho Gangazhe: ” Don’t see anything wrong with it, as long as you notify your neighbours and the loud music is cut off at a certain time and slaughter at the back of the house.”

• Triton Phoenix said “It would have been nice to have been notified just out of pure etiquette. Anyone and everyone deserves a party now and then.

The slaughtering of sheep… well to us it’s inhumane and to others it’s culture. And I love the culture just not the slaughtering of sheep. There needs to be a fine line of fairness in the slaughtering of sheep within the suburbs.”

• Sally Muller said that she thinks the neighbours that held the party should be tolerated. “Surely they don’t do it every weekend? And if they want to slaughter a sheep let them, it is their culture after all. Let the sun shine on everyone …”

• Jane O’Brien: “We live at Rietkuil and our neighbours had it a few years ago. They had the decency to let us know before it happened.”

• Yusuf Joe Tarmohammed said “Even licensed party houses and clubs have a cut off time for many reasons that don’t even need to apply to a residential area. It is morally just wrong to do as you feel is right.”
