Christmas celebrations at Doornkop

The annual DA Christmas celebrations were held on 10 December at Doornkop.

DA Councilor Anphia Grobler started hosting this event in Doornkop in 2006, and has since never failed in bringing joy to these kids at Christmas.

Nearly 1 400 kids from the informal settlement Doornkop this year received gifts and eats. The function was preceded by the telling of the story behind giving at Christmas time by John Nkambule of the DA.

The event this year was extra special, as hand knitted dolls were given to the babies and girls.

Cllr Anphia Grobler invited friends to knit dolls, to be presented as Christmas gifts. More than 40 women assisted in knitting. Members of the Women’s Agricultural Union Mpumalanga, members of the community, Anphia’s Embroidery Class and many others joined in the effort.

Dolls arrived from as far as Welkom in the Free State. Eventually more than 720 dolls were ready to be donated!

Gifts for the boys as well as eats were donated by the community, DA Mpumalanga and Anphia Grobler.
