Rex Cafe to become OK Grocer
Rex Cafe, a landmark in Middelburg that has occupied the corner of Cowen Ntuli and Walter Sisulu street for decades, has shutdown.
It has been closed for a couple of weeks now and according to sources the entire building, including the Garage and the bottle store, will be renovated into an OK Grocer and possibly a fast food franchise as well.
Renovations to the building are expected to begin soon and it is unclear as to how long the new development will take.
Members of the public have reacted strongly following the closure of Rex Cafe, with many expressing their familiarity with the business due to the many years it has served the community.
The owner of the building, who purchased the business recently, could not be reached on Monday morning for comment.
