SAPS nab suspects in special operation
On Friday, 15 April, Mhluzi Police held an operation that yielded positive results.
The operation was led by Station Commander Lieutenant Colonel Moses Maepa and four suspects were arrested and charged:
• Thembinkosi Freddy Masilela (28) was arrested and charged with attempted murder for allegedly burning his partner with an iron at their place of residence in Extension 4 on 31 March.
According to the Mhluzi SAPS, the victims entire body was covered with burns and she was taken to the Middelburg Hospital for treatment.
She is recovering at home after being discharged from hospital. Masilela appeared before the Middelburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday and the case was remanded to 3 May 2016.
• Mduduzi Bogoshi (35) and Dikeledi Mokwana (33) were arrested and charged with possession of ammunition and possession of an item suspected to be stolen.
They reside in Extension 2, and the charges emanated after their place of residence was searched. Police found an angle grinder suspected to be stolen.
The ammunition found was 14 × 9mm live rounds in a 9mm magazine, 25 × 7.65 live rounds, and 3 × 308 hunting rifle live rounds.
They appeared before the Middelburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday and the case was remanded to 28 April 2016. A fake firearm resembling a 9mm was also found.
• Nkomazi Abraham Zulu (49) was arrested and charged with possession of ammunition after 5 × 36 Special Revolver live rounds were found at his place of residence in Extension 4.
He appeared before the Middelburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday and the case was remanded to 19 May 2016.
The Mhluzi SAPS said in a statement that “Lt Col Maepa assures Mhluzi residents that there will be more operations to rid the township of criminals so that everyone can feel safe”.
