Woman pinched for 89 pinches
A Rustenburg woman, working at the Marikana’s infamous Lonmin Mine, was arrested in Hendrina on Monday with 89 pinches of the highly addictive dagga and heroin mix, known in township slang as nyaope, in her possession.
Bridget Dubobokun, who is married to a Nigerian national residing in Hendrina, was spotted by three officers of the crime prevention unit following up information on possible drug deals in progress.
She was wearing a padded jacket, and during a search, a small packet allegedly fell out of one of the jacket’s many pockets.
Constables Tsepho Aphane, Nelisiwe Mkhwanazi and Nkosinathi Chauke, then intensified their search, and came across the 89 pinches of nyaope, spurring them to arrest Dubobokun on the spot.
According to the SAPS, her arrest came during a brief visit to her husband in Hendrina.
It is unclear at this stage whether she has any pending drug related cases against her in Rustenburg.
The pinches were sent for analysis, leading to Dubobokun being released by the Middelburg Magistrates Court on a warning at her appearance on Tuesday.
She has preliminary been charged with drug dealing.
