Breaking News: Kranspoort Pass closed after accident

Kranspoort Pass have been closed for traffic, following an accident between two trucks.

According to witnesses on the scene, a truck carrying a cargo of cold drinks, lost control and veered down the pass, into a stationary truck.

Unfortunately, the mechanic who had been busy on the stationary truck, was killed on impact after being caught between the two.

Meanwhile, infrastructural engineers, HHO, has announced that due to ongoing strike action by road workers, motorists will be using the N11 at own risk until Friday.

“The road will remain closed until striking labourers return to the posts,” Mr Rian Ilse said, adding that HHO was hopeful that the situation would return to normal by Friday.

Mr Ilse also said that the Olifants River Bridge will be closed up to Thursday, due to concrete work being done.

He says the bridge will probably be open to vehicles by 07:00 on Thursday, despite the ongoing strike action, which has resulted in tires being burnt, and vehicles pelted with stones.

“These are matters out of our control, we apologize for the inconvenience,” Mr Ilse concluded.
