Operation Basadi

Women from local police offices, Traffic, Fire and Rescue Services, the Department of Home Affairs as well as Correctional Services partook in Operation Basadi during Women’s Month with road blocks in Machadodorp, Hendrina and Middelburg from Wednesday 10 August to Friday 12 August.

They also conducted stop and searches, crime prevention operations and the tracing of wanted suspects.

One of the biggest successes achieved during Operation Basadi was the arrest of a Swaziland police officer and two accomplices for drug possession when cannabis (dagga) to the value of R33 360 were found in their possession during a road block held at Hendrina.

Brig. Leonard Hlathi, provincial spokesperson, said that it is suspected that the drugs were underway to eMalahleni. All three men appeared in the Hendrina Magistrate’s Court on a charge of drug possession. Their names have not yet been made public.
