R24m Limpopo road upgrades boost access in Sekhukhune

Motorists in Makhuduthamaga and Fetakgomo Tubatse can expect smoother travel after contractors eliminate severe potholes on key rural routes.

Maintenance work on the D4190 and D4250 roads in the Schoonoord and Apel areas has been completed, improving the mobility of residents and access to surrounding communities.

Potholes had badly affected the D4190 in Schoonoord, making travel to Jane Furse, an important economic and social centre in the Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality, difficult for motorists.

The Limpopo Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure, through its implementing agent Road Agency Limpopo, completed the D4190 maintenance project on June 11.

The project started on December 10, 2025, with R12m allocated to the work.

Rehabilitation of the D4250

The rehabilitation of the D4250 between Apel and Ga-Nkoana in the Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality has also been completed.

Work on the road started on December 10, 2025, and was completed on June 8. The project was initially scheduled to be completed on April 30 and was allocated R12m.

Department spokesperson Emmanuel Mongwe said the department did not experience any disturbances from community members during the implementation of the projects.

Provincial infrastructure drive

The Limpopo MEC for Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure, Ernest Rachoene, welcomed the completion of the two projects, saying the interventions form part of the provincial government’s efforts to improve road infrastructure.

The department said the projects are aimed at providing safer and more reliable roads while improving mobility, access to services and supporting local economic activity.

The department also reported that 22 road development projects were undertaken during the previous financial year.

Rachoene expressed satisfaction with the quality of work delivered.
