VIDEO – They scavenge to survive their impoverished existence

Love them or hate them, they’re not going anywhere.

Meet Middelburg’s rubbish bag scavengers, who all rummage through our bags in order to survive.

The Middelburg Observer newspaper tells the tale of a number of the scavengers this week, all of them tales which will grab readers by the heart.

Many of them formerly employed, retrenched and forgotten.

The follow the same route every week, from Monday to Wednesday to collect cans and bottles, and food and clothes.

Their fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters.

Buy this week’s edition of the Middelburg Observer for the touching story.
