The elderly happy at having a special vote

It's all systems go as IEC officials are currently assisting residents to cast their special vote today.

Annaie Mthombeni, only had her Apartheid Pass book instead of her green book, her granddaughter left with her ID.

Residents who are eligible for a special vote will make their mark on the ballot paper today and tomorrow, before the rest of the country heads to the polls on May 8.

At 75, Anna Nkomo voted in the comfort of her home in Rockville, Mhluzi.

The witty Gogo was determined to vote regardless of her painful ankle, “My voice will be heard and the only way to do so is by voting,” said Ms Nkomo.
She told the IEC officials that she has never missed the opportunity to vote since 1994, she also urged other residents to vote.

Lilly Nhlapo (89) also practised her democratic right, the excited granny needed no assistance voting for her party of choice, she praised officials for coming to her home as she is unable to walk long distances.

No one was left behind as visually impaired Lizzy Mahlangu (62) also got an opportunity to decide the direction of the country, she expressed satisfaction after casting her vote.

Of course the day had slight setbacks as Annaie Mthombeni (90) only had her Apartheid pass book instead of her green book. Her granddaughter left with her ID, Ms Mthombeni will vote either today or tomorrow.
