Political motives may be behind kidnapping of municipal manager

There may be political motives behind the kidnapping of Nkangala District Municipal Manager Ms Maggie Skhosana's shocking kidnapping outside the gates of the municipality early yesterday morning.

Ms Skhosana, who is disabled and wheelchair bound, was kidnapped by a blue-light gang alongside her female driver, Ms G. Mtsweni yesterday morning as they arrived at the municipality.

Ms Skosana and her driver were forced to speed away in Ms Skosana’s vehicle by the kidnappers.
Ms Skhosana’s vehicle and wheelchair were later found abandoned next to the road heading to Kriel.

Since the kidnapping there’s been no trace of either the abducted women and police have urged members of the public with information to assist with finding both women unharmed.

According to sources Ms Skosana was seconded to take over the reigns of Municipal Manager of Sekhukhune District Municipality in November this year.

The Limpopo municipality has been struggling with providing support services to local authorities under its umbrella for some time.
The district has been plagued by poor roads, water and sanitation issues for years.

Ms Skohasana’s appointment, however, ruffled some feathers among the Sekhukhune establishment Middelburg Observer has learnt.

The municipality has issued an internal memorandum to employees shortly after the kidnapping.
The ciscular urged employees to remain calm as authorities believe it to be an isolated event.

Traumatized Nkangala staff is praying for both women’s safe return.

Mpumalanga has some of the country’s highest, unsolved, political assassination investigations, which remain open.

A source within the municipality says employees have been assisting police with possible leads, but that the victim’s whereabouts remain unclear at this stage.
A wide search in the area where Ms Skhosana’s vehicle and wheelchair have been found, has also not turned up anything.
