Municipality warns fireworks lovers

With New Year celebrations around the corner the Steve Tshwete Local Municipality has sent a stern warning to fireworks lovers.

The municipality said residents are only allowed to display their fireworks on New Year’s Eve between 23:00 and 01:00 on January 1.

Residents are urged to report anyone who displays fireworks at the inappropriate times to the municipal law enforcers on 013 243 2222.

“Nuisance fireworks produce an effect involving a screech or bang noise or create fear or a disturbance to residents. Altering or misusing fireworks can also become a nuisance. These fireworks include air bombs, supersonic bangs, sound shells and fountain whistles,” the municipality said.

Those who fail to adhere to the warning will be slapped with a fine.
