#National Shutdown – Traffic moving, workers reporting to work, police out in full force
EFF mum on protest action in Middelburg
Everything is quiet in Middelburg for now, with residents of Nasaret, Doornkop and Mhluzi reporting that that roads are open and residents are out and about.
According to Community in Blue members, protesters did burn tyres at Choppies on the N11 earlier this morning, but police quickly put an end to the fracas.
The municipality confirmed that the institution is open for business and that the public will be assisted.
No feedback have been received from the EFF before publishing, on what the party is planning over the span of today.
Red zone areas, like the mall, Columbus, Mhluzi entrances and other areas identified by police, were also visited this morning, with nothing to report on at this stage.
Police and municipal law enforcement units remain stationed at strategic vantage points to guarantee rapid deployment where necessary.
Shops have also started opening for business.
Police expect random incidents but maintain they’re ready for any eventuality.
Various radio groups are also on high alert, with patrols having been organised throughout town during last night.
The Duvha road and N12 were both blocked by protesters who’ve since withdrawn from the areas.
Trouble can, however, be expected on the N4 from eMalahleni towards Gauteng.
Motorists are urged to travel with caution.
