What used to be a popular picnic area has now become a large bog of sewage, while effluent continues to gush from a manhole near one of the ablution facilities.

DA Ward Councillor Helda De Klerk confirmed that she is aware and has reported the leak since last week, “I have taken photos of the large body of sewage and reported it to the Steve Tshwete Local Municipality twice last week, as well as on Monday again.”

Cllr De Klerk said that the Department of Water and Sanitation’s director gave feedback that the leak is the result of a blockage, likely caused by a faulty fitting that connects the new pipes to the old.

“They are waiting for a machine that is currently being used in Hendrina so that they can locate the blockage. The last feedback stated that they will tend to the leak today (Tuesday).”
