The back of the building began burning this morning at 06:00, with many parents dropping off their children at the Eastdene Combined School standing in shock.
At this stage, it is unclear how the fire started. However, a reliable source told the Middelburg Observer he suspects people have been sleeping in the rubble at the back of AC Moosa’s.

This is the second fire at the Eastdene Shopping Complex in four months, with the Eastdene community still recovering from the brutal armed robbery that devastated Saverite Supermarket and AC Moosa’s in November.
One fire engine was used throughout the process, with the team of firefighters managing to cull the flames and control the situation efficiently.

This is in stark contrast to the previous blaze at the Eastdene Complex, where the local fire brigade came under severe criticism from the public and Eastdene community spokesperson Farouk Suliman for their handling of the fire.
