The aftermath of last night’s storm

The damage caused by last night’s thunderstorm is still being determined, with more and more reports of damaged houses and buildings.

Sal Botha measured Dennesig’s rainfall at 33ml, while according to the Middelburg Reënval Facebook group, Aerorand South accrued 55ml, Middelburg South 52ml and Mineralia 75ml.

Extension 8 in Mhluzi was also heavily affected by the storm, with two homes suffering severe damage.

The SAVF old age home was flooded.

The Middelburg Fire Brigade were able to help, as they gathered and installed temporary roofing at both houses.

Streets were flooded, trees were struck by lightning, and the SAVF old age home needed help from the community to keep their heads above water.
