The female doctor who was arrested for the alleged theft of medication and hospital equipment was released on bail earlier today.

Medical Doctor Gugu Bridget Masina (32), who was arrested last Friday for allegedly stealing medication and medical equipment at the Middelburg Provincial Hospital, estimated at R80 000, was granted bail of R5 000 this morning (Monday) after a brief court appearance.

She appeared in the Middelburg Magistrates’ Court, and the matter was postponed to April 5 for further investigation.

According to the Mpumalanga Police, “The doctor found herself on the wrong side of the law when her vehicle was searched by security personnel while departing from a government hospital on March 1 at about 16:45.”

The police stated that the medical equipment was valued at R50 000; however, in court, the magistrate said the items were valued at R80 000.

According to Dr Masina’s LinkedIn account, she works at the Middelburg Provincial Hospital, “I am a medical doctor working at a district hospital in Mpumalanga. I work independently in the Emergency Department, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and Anaesthesiology Department.”

She reportedly attended her degree at MEDUNSA, now known as Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University in Ga-Rankuwa.
