Doctor arrested for allegedly stealing medication from hospital

A female doctor will appear before court today after being caught trying to leave a hospital with medication and hospital equipment in her possession.

A 31-year-old female medical doctor spent a weekend behind bars in Middelburg for allegedly stealing medication and medical equipment estimated at R50 000.

The doctor found herself on the wrong side of the law when her vehicle was searched by security personnel while departing from a government hospital on Friday, 01 March, at about 16:45.

Reports indicate that numerous medications and medical equipment were found concealed in the boot. The doctor could not explain why the government’s properties were in her car.

Police were summoned to the scene and the doctor was arrested for stealing from the hospital.

The doctor is expected to appear before the Middelburg Magistrates’ Court today (Monday, 04 March).

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela expressed admiration for the excellent job done by the security officer, “The security officer performed duties without fear or favour,” concluded the Provincial Commissioner.
