The N4 is currently backed up with traffic following the closure of the Eastbound lanes.

Two collisions, one involving five cars and a truck, has also been reported.

People were also injured in a second collision close to the Alzu rest stop.

Major traffic delays on N4

A motorist posted a video of the backed up traffic on TrafficAlert, showing vehicles waiting for the route to reopen.

The N4 was also briefly closed on Tuesday due to fires and smoke.

There’s still a number of fires burning and motorists have been urged to reduce speed for their own safety between Middelburg and Mbombela.
