Condolences are streaming in for the murdered teacher who was stabbed to death in front of his wife last night, with residents saying he was the best neighbour.

A number of residents say they had chatted to the victim earlier yesterday, unaware that it would be their last conversation.

The man and his wife went to buy bread and water at the nearby OK Grocer, when their leisurely stroll back home turned into a nightmare.

According to Herculaas Taljaard who assisted on the scene of the murder. the man was stabbed with such ferocity, that his chest cavity was open and internal organs were exposed.

He was stabbed at least ten times with wounds to his hands, buttocks, back and chest.

He fought back heroically, sustaining multiple defensive wounds to his hands and arms.

It is clear from the scene that the man didn’t die instantly, with signs that he rolled around on the ground following the attack, in an effort to stem the bleeding.

The woman escaped, and ran back to their home where she alerted her employer who drove het back to the scene.

Eyewitnesses say that when she arrived, she immediately ran back to her husband’s side and began beating him om the chest in order to get his heart pumping.

Scores of residents flocked to the scene, and all said the same thing: “The park is must go!”.

What is supposed to be a community asset, has turned into a loitering ground for druggies and delinquents.

• The body of Mr Douw van der Walt (64) was discovered in the same park on May 4.

He was found stripped naked and tortured.

His murderers then drove over his naked and scarred body multiple times with a vehicle.

No arrests have been made in either murder.

The murdered teacher has not been formally identified by his family, and therefore he cannot be publicly identified yet.

A colleague commenting on the article of the murder posted last night shortly after the murder occurred says that the school he taught at will be facing a barrage of heartbroken children on Monday.

Local trauma counselors have been asked to offer support for the kids.

A while ago a miner was also attacked in a nearby field by a group of men who beat him with pipes and stones, and kickcad and stomped on him with steel cap boots.

He had to undergo facial reconstruction surgery.

According to Taljaard the robbers who killed the teacher ran off with the couples’ phones and cash.

The woman says three robbers were involved.

Police ask anyone with information to come forward.

Residents are demanding more visible policing, and say their children are exposed to the danger in parks where they should be safe.

Police have not commented on the brutal slaying yet.

Following the murder, another man alleged that he was also stabbed and robbed in the same park.

It turned out, however, that only his cell phone was taken by friends living in the bushes alongside the alleged victim.

The man was not stabbed as he claimed, and had no injuries.
