Dog poisoned in Gholfsig by gang of motorcycle thieves

Motorcycle thieves poisoned a dog and damaged a wall to get access to the garage where the motorcycles were kept.

A Gholfsig family lost a beloved family pet during an early morning break-in at their Totius Street home by a gang of at least nine motorcycle thieves.

The unfortunate Jack Russell was poisoned by the gang between 02:00 and 03:00 on Tuesday morning, before the gang proceeded to break through a brick wall to gain entry to the property.

Once inside, they broke through a garage door, where the owner stores around seven motorcycles. The gang removed three motorcycles from the garage before lifting one through the hole in the wall.
The two other motorcycles were discovered outside, with the gang only fleeing with one.

The homeowner saw on CCTV cameras that his garage had been broken into when another dog inside the home started growling and barking.

According to the homeowner, the Jack Russell first woke him up at around 02:00. He looked outside but didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary. He went back to bed when the Jack Russell eventually went silent.

When the second dog became agitated around 03:00, he looked at his CCTV cameras and saw that the garage had been broken into. On closer inspection, the homeowner discovered the dead dog outside.
Luckily, the home alarm system was triggered by the break-in, notifying Titon Security of the crime.

Titon rushed to the home and immediately started a search for the gang, with nine people counted on CCTV footage The search extended to Mhluzi, where Titon officers recovered the stolen bike close to the Sasol garage.

The incident happened in the early hours of Thursday morning last week.
Thieves forced open a window to a garage in Kuruman Street. The dog, which was sleeping in the garage, was poisoned.
Nothing was stolen.
