Viral social media post urges public to remain vigilant on N4 after ‘harrowing’ ordeal

Arno van Rooyen said the encounter could have 'resulted in catastrophic consequences'.

This morning, Arno van Rooyen recounted on Facebook what he describes as a ‘harrowing’ incident that occurred on the N4 from Pretoria to Middelburg.

He stated that while driving along the route yesterday morning, specifying between eMalahleni and Middelburg, rocks were thrown at his vehicle, which was travelling at 110-120km/h.

Believing this to be an attempt from potential hijackers to cause him to pull over and investigate, van Rooyen said the encounter could have ‘resulted in catastrophic consequences’.

In the above photo material, small dents are clearly visible on what appears to be the back left door of van Rooyen’s bakkie.

He later gave more details in the comments section of the post, and confirmed that the incident took place 11:00.

A startled commenter replied, “Broad daylight, I always avoid driving in the dark. Bly julle is darem ok, maar dit is bad.”

When asked where the incident precisely happened, van Rooyen posted, “Daar waar die muur is daai lae muur.” (There where the wall is, the low wall)

Van Rooyen strongly urged the public to not stop under these circumstances and that this message be shared with friends and families.
