K9 to search for drowning victim at Botshabelo

Middelburg’s torrential rivers have claimed another victim, with K9 Dona en route to search for another drowning victim.

A search of the Klein Olifants River in Botshabelo is underway after a man was swept away by raging floodwaters.

The incident was reported early this morning, after two men walking from Mhluzi to Botshabelo crossed an overflowing low-water bridge.
One of the two men was swept away by the strong currents, resulting in a search for the man’s body.

According to information supplied by the other man, the victim is 25 years old.

The Mpumalanga Police Diving Unit was dispatched to the scene, but due to the strong currents, members could not enter the river this morning.
The Lydenburg K9 Search and Rescue Unit is on its way to search the river banks for the missing man.

Dona will be conducting yet another search, having successfully located the body of a female drone pilot on April 26.

Dona will be aiding in the search for a man who was swept away by the Klein Olifants River.

The pilot, employed by UDS UAV & Drone Solutions, was on patrol in the Blinkpan area with a colleague when their vehicle was swept away while crossing the flooded Koringspruit River.

While the male colleague survived the incident, which took place on the Friday, a search for the woman was launched, and her body was found by Dona on Saturday.
